I knew it had been awhile since I posted, but I just looked and it’s been since April 25- yikes! Over a month! I haven’t forgotten about the blog but there just hasn’t been a lot of updating to do about the whole France situation. There have been a lot of changes in my life lately though, so here goes a quick update!
My official last day of student teaching was April 26, although I went back the following Monday for a goodbye party with my freshmen. Leaving all my students was so bittersweet, although I did allow them to add me on Facebook if they so desired (nearly all my personal information is blocked from them, and I haven’t regretted it so far). I just wanted them to be able to stay in touch with me if they wanted to.
I had about a week in Blono to chill and relax, and then I moved out of my apartment the following weekend. It was so sad to say goodbye to my first real apartment and my roommate! I then drove to my parents’ house in Illinois City, where I unpacked and started to try to organize my room (fitting an entire apartment into one room is not good) for a couple of days before driving back to Bloomington to celebrate graduation with my friends, participate in the ceremony, and spend time with my family that came down to visit.
Graduation was a great weekend. I got to see some of my best friends, I didn’t trip across the stage (although I did nearly walk up the wrong aisle coming back… whoops), and a bunch of my family members came down for the ceremony and to spend the weekend. It was a wonderful last few days in Blono… I’m going to miss that town!
Since then I have been here, there, and everywhere. I spent a couple of days in Illinois City, drove out to the suburbs for an interview at Walgreens Corporate (the same place I worked last summer), came back to IC, then headed out to Eldora, IA (my mom’s hometown) for a family funeral. While I was in Eldora, I got a call from Walgreens offering me a position for the summer- woo hoo! I accepted it, passed my drug test (PHEW!), and moved out to my aunt and uncle’s house in Schaumburg yesterday, Monday the 29th. Today was my first day of work- I’m so happy to be back! I’m planning on being out in the suburbs basically until I go to France in September sometime (specific date TBD).
So there you have it- what I’ve been up to this last month of bloglessness! I promise I won’t wait another month before posting again; I got an email from the TAPIF coordinator last week with some info, and I should also be finding out my specific city and school placement soon, so expect a France-related post within a week or two!
